Jobs like this are normally few and far between. I call them “rescues” because the vehicle has been so neglected it takes what most people would consider a miracle to restore the finish from the brink of death. This Taurus had been sitting collecting dust, dirt, bugs and grime for well over a year. The owner had previously purchased another vehicle and left this sitting on a farm at the end of a gravel driveway with no maintenance or washing done to it during this time. Once the owner decided it was time to sell it they trusted the pros at Autowerx to restore this Taurus to her former glory.
Here is what we started with: Zero gloss and caked on road grime and mildew from never being maintained for an extended amount of time. Unfortunately, once a vehicle’s finish gets to this point, extreme measures need to be taken to clean everything safely and thoroughly.
Under direct sunlight all of the swirls, scratches, and other damage is incredibly apparent…
First step is always the wheels. It was evident that these rims hadn’t seen a proper cleaning in a LONG time. There was years of baked on brake dust coating the entire surface. A variety of professional wheel cleaners and tools were used to restore the original factory look. Care is taken to ensure no damage is caused during the restoration processes as can happen when using the wrong chemicals or tools.
Next up the vehicle was foamed with a strong mix of Meguiar’s Hyper Wash and washed using a 2-bucket method and various wash mitts. Every nook and cranny was pressure washed and meticulously detailed to ensure no dirt or grime was left behind. The paint was also decontaminated using special chemicals to dissolve road tar and iron deposits that leave the finish feeling rough to the touch. Lastly all paint and glass was clayed to remove any additional above surface contaminates like tree sap or industrial fallout that aren’t removed during a normal wash.
After the vehicle was thoroughly cleaned and decontaminated the paint was polished to a high luster finish. Since the owner was simply prepping this vehicle for sale a 1-step polish was used to eliminate fine swirls and light to medium defects. This left the paint nearly 70-80% flawless with only some deeper scratches and etchings remaining.
After polishing the paint the vehicle was washed again to remove any dust created during the paint restoration process and then coated with a durable synthetic wax. This left the paint incredibly slick and glossy as you can see in the following pics!
When it’s time to sell your vehicle give Autowerx Detailing a call to ensure you get the highest return on your investment. Who knows… it might turn out so shiny that you want to just keep it instead!
